Healthy Hair Ingredient | DIY Products For Healthy Hair!

Going Green With Green Tea
"Honey, why do you have 11 spray bottles and a big jug of Aloe Vera Juice in the refrigerator?”

My husband has asked me variations of these questions many times over when I started making my own hair care products. I answer with the same phrase, “I am a proud Kitchenista!” He just shakes his head and continues to look for something to eat…

My Mane Speaks | Don't Give Up On Your Natural Hair

On January 14, 2013, my jagged tresses spoke to me today when I was just “done” about having natural hair and was thinking about going back to the perm:
Don't Give Up On Your Natural Hair
Sistah-gurl! What are you doing feeling down about me? Don’t feel bad about me, sugar. Yes, I have been pulled excessively, combed through with no remorse, and burn with every last heating tool you can splurge on me. But, I am still here with ya. I will always be here for ya, honey…and do you know why? It’s because we are connected. That’s right, connected! You can’t get rid of me that easily. I will always be here."

"Ya worked your numbs in me for years with no hope of recovering, but I was still here holding on by my jagged locks. You have used countless products on me…how many was that just today? Mmm, I believe it was about 11 products AT ONCE you have used on me in one sitting; but greasy and all, I was still here for you. I will never leave ya, sugar!"

Hair Tips | Natural Hair And The Heat: What the Heck, Humidity?!

It's so freakin' humid outside!!!!

Natural Hair Vs Humidity
For the past few weeks, the weather in Indy has been really nice, but at the same time sticky and muggy. I mean the weather is just really moist!

When my natural was out, my morning style would go from a twist out to an afro by early afternoon because of the high humidity here. What makes it worse, my hair would also feel so dry to the touch as well, just because that is just the nature of my hair.

Hair Tips | Don't Let Your Hair Go Down The Shower Drain!

A Complete Regimen For Fine, Natural Hair
You've been waiting all week (or few days) to wash your hair. Pre-pooing with coconut oil could not have come quick enough or you decided to co wash with your conditioner just to get the job done.

You even hit two birds with one stone with cleansing your body after a productive work out (or washing the laziness off after watching 15 episodes your fav TV show). "Oh Wash Day! How I love you...let me count the ways!"

So time to rinse your hair out and leave the shower; however, when you are getting ready to step out, you see pieces of hair on the bathtub floor...what do you decide to do?

Oh! Don't act like you really take the time to clean your hairs up. You let the water carry those pieces to the shower drain and don't have a second thought about it...um what?!

My Hair Diary | Keeping a Hair Diary

"Wait, which heat protectant did I use?" "How was that oil used again?" When I did that twist out, did I air dry my twists or dry first then twisted my hair?"

My Hair Diary | Keeping a Hair Diary
These are the questions I constantly ask myself when I decide on a style for the week. Once I do my Wash Day, I either have to follow the same hair regimen I did before or evolve my regimen to something better. I rather not have a "down-hill" experience, especially since I'm so far into my Hair Journey. So my Hair Diary has become my play book that I refer to often when it has anything to do with my hair.

With this said I believe I know my hair so well and how to care for it because of my Hair Diary. I have kept it since July 2011, with updating every 2 weeks. At the 3 month mark, I review over everything that happened for those 90 days (challenges, hair length, goals, regimen and products used).

Hair Tips | Hot Oil Treatments For Natural Hair

Hair Tips | Hot Oil Treatments For Natural Hair

I DO HOT OIL TREATMENTS MONTHLY!

Hot oil and pre-poo treatments are great for those with fine-natural hair to help keep the hair soft, promote shine, and to keep the hair detangled with ease. These treatments are also great for those who use shampoos (especially with sulfate) so your hair won't be too stripped.

I differentiate pre-poo and hot oil treatments. I use different products and ingredients for certain purposes my hair needs at the time. Following are the benefits and the ingredients/recipes of hot oil treatments.

Hot oil treatments add extra conditions benefits for your hair before washing or for your deep conditioning process. They are especially awesome for those with dry and damaged hair because of heating tools, hair chemicals, and plainly - the environment (humidity, blazing sun, etc.).

I usually use my Mud Wash to clarify my hair or Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner for co washing my hair, but I thought I would try this Cowash. I saw many raving reviews about it for being a cleansing conditioner.

My Natural Hair Journey | The Birth of My Natural

“My hair will never grow nor be healthy ever again! I give up!!!”

My Natural Hair Journey | The Birth of My Natural

This was me back in 2007; I did not know what to do with my messed-up hair. I had always gone to the beauty shop to get my hair done, so I was neither taught nor learned how to care for it. I had burns and countless damage from being relaxed, done by a “professional” stylist.

I had heat damage and split ends from all the times I would straighten my hair, nearly every day, with no heat protectant. My hair was greatly uneven due to the myth that “if you cut your hair, it will never grow back.” Crying myself to sleep every night, I was at a loss. I gave up on my hair …
