5 Things You Should Not Say To Relaxed-Haired Women

I am tired of all this "natural this and natural that!" What the crap?! What happened to sisterly love yall! Being natural is a choice for your own self and not, "IF YOU NOT NATURAL, YOU AIN'T NOTHING!!" That is not what being natural is all about...

Remember when you first went natural? Maybe it was a big deal when you transitioned and maybe it was nothing to you when you got your “sistah-gurl” on and did the Big Chop, either way becoming a naturalista is a life-changing experience for all who choose that journey.

We see “stop getting relaxers and love your God-intended hair” and “your man will appreciate your natural look.” All of this is so encouraging to naturalistas and what we believe is the right decision for our own hair….but what about the relaxed sisters? Are you supportive and encouraging in your healthy hair?

Healthy Hair Ingredient | Black Tea For Strength And Thickness

Black Tea For Strength And Thickness
Moving way-way-way-away from using the garlic treatment, I did more research and found the benefits of using tea in a hair regimen for healthy hair. I'm just so amazed at the different things I can use  right in kitchen for my hair!

What is a tea rinse?

The tea is brewed according to the box, allowing the tea to steep and cool, then pouring the tea over your hair for the treatment. The tea stays for about 20-30 minutes before rinsing out or adding your deep conditioner for that treatment.

Healthy Hair Ingredient | Garlic For Natural Hair And Many Health Benefits

Garlic For Natural Hair And Many Health Benefits
Since the end of December, my hair has been shedding excessively! I mean, to the point where I would touch my hair and have loose strands would be on my hands. I know my hair is shedding because of the white bulb I see on each end and the long piece of hair that comes out my hair. So no, my hair is not breaking off. But this is still too much of shed hair for me! It's a really scary feeling yall!!!

I'm thinking it is because I got my hair flat ironed back in November just for a change and I do have fine texture, which I believe NOW that any kind of direct heat is detrimental to my hair. SOOOO it is possible that heat damage is the cause of my excessive hair shedding fiasco. *sigh*

So instead of chopping my damaged ends off on cue, I decided to find an alternative way to curb the excessive shedding so that I can at least do my styling in peace. So the first natural alternative is: Garlic Treatment.

What are the hair benefits of garlic?

Healthy Hair Ingredient | Castor Oil For Growth And Thickness

Castor Oil For Growth And Thickness

I first learned about using castor oil for a healthy hair regimen in the Summer of 2014 from Jenell Stewart of Kinky Curly Coily Me. I thought it was pretty weird and interesting using a laxative on your hair to use for massaging, deep conditioning, and sealing the ends; however, this idea intrigued me. She said that using castor to massage on your scalp and hair could help the strands to thicken, the hair to growth healthy, and to seal in the moisture of the hair. I thought this was a pretty great product I've should have had in my hair arsenal years ago! But better to start now.

I definitely love using castor oil for my hair, since I have fine textured hair. But I can't get enough of Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I absolutely love it!

Healthy Hair Ingredient | Cleansing With Rhassoul Clay OR Mud Wash

Cleansing Natural Hair With Rhassoul Clay OR Mud Wash
This year is already full of changes with my hair regimen and staple products. One of those things would be what I use to wash my hair, how often I wash my hair, and what is this co washing business? Oh, yes I have switched up from using Shea Moisture Curl and Shine Shampoo and Shea Moisture Raw Retention Conditioner/Masque to using Rhassoul Clay for cleanse/deep conditioning and Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner for co washing. I saw Naptural 85's DIY clay wash recipe and saw her hair health and understood the benefits. So I thought I would try this clay wash.

Protective Style Series Vol 3.5 | How To Safely Remove Crochet Braids

How To Safely Remove Crochet Braids Cuban Twist
I've had it! It is time to take out my Cuban Twist Crochet Braids, that I have had in for only 1 1/2 weeks. Yes, I know it's pretty early. But I have a really good reason...maybe more than one reasons why I am taking out this install very early.

Just saying...I absolutely love the texture of the hair. It def matches the natural hair texture. But I just can't take the maintenance of this hair. The curling, boiling water, detangling, shedding, cutting, and repeat is just too much for my lifestyle.

So here I am with the scissors ready to take out this hair and be rid of it once and for all (except when I want to do jumbo twists or braids with it). I don't think I would EVER use this hair for roller set or braid out crochet braids again...

So now the removal...this process took me only 30 minutes to remove!

9 Helpful Ways To Keep Your Hair Frizz Free When Installing Braids

Don't you hate it when you plan on a long term style for weeks, spend hours in the chair to get your hair braided up, and your hair frizzes by week 3? I know I don't like that when my Senegalese twists get frizzy and look a mess...I literally would contemplate on whether to take my style out or just try to endure the frizz.

Well, no! Not anymore. With my times of getting braids and twists, I wrote down everything that went wrong with the style and how to do better next time. This is why it is so important to keep a hair diary. So I came up with these tips to help you and others to learn how to effectively care for long term braids and twists.

Protective Style Series Vol 3.2 | Freetress Equal Cuban Twist Braid

Crochet Braids Freetress Equal Cuban Twist Braid

Check her out! I absolutely love her Cuban Twist crochet set!

The time has come to try crochet braiding again! I really do love this protective style. It can look natural and the installation is simple and time effective.

What's not to like about crochet braids?!

So here I am with my Freetress Cuban Twist hair ready to work.

My first reaction is that this hair texture has the most natural look (more than Marley hair), but the texture is not a soft texture. So I know I  need to detangle my hair thoroughly with a cream or butter and my Denman brush. Also the Cuban Twist hair is pre parted, which would make it easy to work with for the style I want.

I want the cute-curly look...and I'm allergic to steam creeping up my neck and face, with a fear of second degree burns. Yea...so I'm going to pre dip the hair, which is easier for me. I picked up 3 packs of hair (but only used 2 1/2 for the actual style) for 5.99 each in the hair colors 1 (jet black), 1b (off-black), and 27 (caramel-blonde). I also cut the hair in half to have a curly-shoulder length style.

Pre-dip Marley And Cuban Twist Hair
It has been a long time coming y'all! I finally figured out how to curl my Marley and Cuban Twist hair for crochet braiding! The process is so simple and yet so important to do correctly or you will:
  • lose out money! (5.99 for 5 packs y'all...just saying that can add up)
  • miss out on an awesome style
  • no opportunity to try something new
  • have to go back to the beauty supply house for more hair

AIN'T NOBODY GOT TIME FOR THAT!

How To | Straw Set Tutorial For Natural Hair

Straw Set Tutorial For Natural Hair
I absolutely love this style. Other than fluffing, there is no daily manipulation of combing, brushing, and tugging.

I've always loved straw sets and the curl pattern that comes with the end result, but never had the courage to try it because of the time and patience that is needed to set the style. But I've seen so many success pictures, there would be no way that I could mess this style up.

So here I am trying this style for the first time!

Believe me when I say that I have been there before. My hair was always dry and I did not know what was going on. First of all, I was not using a moisturizer never-ever-ever and I was using oils to "moisturize" my hair. BIG OOPS! And I never heard of a deep conditioner or anything else I would need for healthy hair. So here I am 2 years later from actually caring for my hair to help you with your BIG OOPS. First test out your hair to see where you are at in moisture and protein balance:

Hair Tests | Vol. 1.4 What Is My Hair Density?

Hair Tests | Vol. 1.4 What Is My Hair Density?

Low Density
Do you have so much hair to the point that you just can't part it for a style or your parts are just off? Does your Senegalese twists or box braids style look scalp? I am referring to density - how closely the individuals strands are relatively to each other. It is much easier to check density by looking at your scalp:
