Healthy Hair Ingredient | Castor Oil For Growth And Thickness

Castor Oil For Growth And Thickness

I first learned about using castor oil for a healthy hair regimen in the Summer of 2014 from Jenell Stewart of Kinky Curly Coily Me. I thought it was pretty weird and interesting using a laxative on your hair to use for massaging, deep conditioning, and sealing the ends; however, this idea intrigued me. She said that using castor to massage on your scalp and hair could help the strands to thicken, the hair to growth healthy, and to seal in the moisture of the hair. I thought this was a pretty great product I've should have had in my hair arsenal years ago! But better to start now.

I definitely love using castor oil for my hair, since I have fine textured hair. But I can't get enough of Jamaican Black Castor Oil. I absolutely love it!

What is castor oil?

Castor oil is an extract from seeds originated in Africa. It has been used to soften the skin and as a massage aid. Now it is a recommended use for obtaining and keeping healthy hair.

What's the difference?

The raw castor oil has a pale, yellow color and the purest that you can find. The seed is literally pressed until the oil comes out from the nut (cold pressed). This is the most natural method for extracting the oil. This oil is not clear!

The black castor oil is extracted from roasted seeds, which is also created by adding the ash from the process to make the oil really dark. It smells like burnt nuts or an earthy smell. JBCO is a bit thicker than raw castor oil.

What are the benefits?

Increase hair growth and boost hair's overall health
Prevent your hair from looking frizzy and having split ends
Thicken hair that is thinning out and reduce hair damage
Deeply condition and moisturize hair and scalp
Prevents dry scalp and dandruff

Who wants those benefits!!! I do, I do!

How can I use castor oil?

Pre poo - combine with extra virgin olive oil (EVOO) to give the ultimate boost. Separate your hair in 4-6 workable sections. Massage the oil on your scalp and your strands concentrating on the ends for about 5 minutes a section. Put a plastic cap/bag on the hair 1). put on a beanie for added heat, 2). sit under a hooded dryer for 30+ minutes, 3). condition overnight. Do your wash regimen and you will have soft hair!

Deep conditioner - You can add castor oil to your deep conditioner for added benefits or create your own using 1 egg, 1 tbsp. of castor oil, and 1 tbsp. of EVOO. Mix the ingredients together and add thoroughly to your hair, focusing on the ends. Cover your hair with a plastic cap and sit under a dryer for 15-20 minutes. This is a great deep conditioning protein treatment, which your hair will love you for.

Scalp massages - dip your fingers in your castor oil and move the ball of your fingers in a circular motion on your scalp. Your baby hairs will also benefit for this treatment. Scalp massages stimulates hair growth and is great for hairlines that have thinned out with TOO TIGHT styling options.

Seal ends - Once you add your daily moisturizer to your hair, seal with castor oil on your ends especially. Your hair will stay moisturized throughout the entire day!

Free Frizz Twisting/Braiding - Since castor oil is so thick, use it to create really neat mini twists or braids. Your hair will be frizz free and the style will last longer.

Where can I purchase castor oil?

The raw castor oil is readily available in CVS, Wal-Mart, and Walgreens. It is usually $5 to $10, where you can find in the medicine and vitamins aisle.

JBCO is usually available online like: Amazon or a personal contractor. You can also purchase JBCO in beauty stores, BUT MAKE SURE IT IS 100% JBCO!! It does not have to be Tropic Isle, although it seems to be the most purchased. For an 8oz, this bottle can be $10 to $15 online. It is a bit more expensive, so it just depends on your preference.

Either one is great to use. ONE IS NOT BETTER THAN THE OTHER. It's just a matter of preference: smell, consistency, ingredients, etc.

Make sure the bottle says 100% oil or cold-pressed. Some bottles say "pure castor oil" or "Jamaican black castor oil," but when reading the ingredient label you will see 20 other "things" in the bottle. THAT'S NOT WHAT YOU WANT! Get the 100% oil to get the full benefits of castor oil.

NOW! There are no scientific facts that many naturals swear that castor oil grows their hair, even though you see the pictures of growth everywhere. Castor oil is pretty thick, so that could be an illusion that your hair is thickening with the use of the oil...

HOWEVER!!! I have done the castor oil challenge in month intervals. In each challenge, not once but twice now and still continuing on...my hair has grown significantly, become healthier, and has gotten thicker just by implementing castor oil in my hair regimen.

WHATEVER TO SCIENCE!!

I know my normal hair growth and using castor oil now has added a few more inches to my retained hair length every time I do a length check at the 3 months mark. I have used both oils and I still use both oils in my hair regimen.

Do a castor oil challenge and see what I'm talking about. You may love it and you may not, but you will definitely notice a difference in the health of your hair!

Natural hair says: if you are looking for a way to increase your retained growth, reduce hair damage, seal your moisture in, or boost your overall hair health, use castor oil in your hair regimen. You will absolutely love it!
