The secret:
STRETCH THE HAIR!
I used to do my twist outs on damp hair and would end up unsatisfied, because my hair would be "poofy" by the middle of the day and very tangled. But I learned during my HAIR WARS that the dry twist out set better, had more shine, had less tangles, flowed in the wind, had less shrinkage, and lasted for about 3-4 days without touch up.
Products:
Sew in Weave Thread (purchased from local beauty supply)
*use any products that will make your twist out the bomb
Tutorial:
Start on freshly washed, damp, ***moisturized***, and detangled hair.Measure the thread is three to four times your hair length (I am at APL...I measured from head to hip twice).

African Threading To Stretch Natural Hair |
Once your hair is stretched, separate your hair into three sections (top, middle, and bottom). Start with the bottom and separate it into 3 sections.
Braid at the root (maybe 3 passes) then begin twisting until about an inch to the end (I braid at the root so my roots won't be too puffy)
Get a dab of oil/cream and finger coil the ends until secure

Twist Out With Dry, Stretched Hair Tutorial |
Do all over head until full of plump twists. Cover with a satin bonnet for the night. The longer you leave the twists in, the more defined your twist out will be.
The next day, undo your twists gently and with extra-care. Use a bit of light oil to take down each twist, if you like to reduce extra frizz.
Once taken down, style your hair the way you see fit then TAKE A SELFIE!
Once taken down, style your hair the way you see fit then TAKE A SELFIE!
And that's it!
Twist Out With Dry, Stretched Hair Tutorial |
During the weekends, I wear my hair out in a twist out. I absolutely love this style! |
Natural hair says: find that go-to style for your own hair. Sometimes it will take a minute to figure out how to do the style. But once you try many times, you will figure it out for your own hair.

***Notice: I used my moisturizer while setting my hair and not after my hair was dry. I also did not apply more moisturizer to my hair when setting and only added light oil/cream to my ends. To execute a fluffy and flowing twist out, try not to use so many products. The more product you use, the more your hair will weigh down.***
