Wash And Go Tutorial |
I'm so excited that I finally pulled this style off! I would always think that my hair just could not do the wash n go...but I'm excited to say that my hair came through for me. I was just using the wrong combination of products.
The Story:
I had my hair in a flat twist updo for about 2 weeks and decided that it was time to take it down. Instead of taking my entire style out, I only took out the top portion and left the flat twists in the back for a few more days until Wash day.
So the next morning, I co washed the top portion of my hair with Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle and allowed the warm water to run along my scalp and the hair (and get all those oils and excess product out). Once I was done, I thought I would try the wash n go just to do it...and I succeeded
Products Used:
Once I got out of my morning shower, I allowed my hair to air dry for a few minutes. I then added a small amount of my leave-in along my hair in sections (make sure to concentrate on the ends). Then, I used my gel to shingle my hair - run gel along small amounts of hair strands. After I was done, I allowed my hair to air dry.

What Happened Before?
I tell you that the misconception of the wash n go got me over and over...I thought I could literally wash my hair, put on product, then go out the door. WRONG!!! I had to do a bit more to my hair to achieve the wash n go.
The many times I failed at wash n gos, I would ONLY use leave-in conditioner or ONLY use gel. I never used both. I also put product on my sopping wet hair, so the product would slip off my hair. This allowed my hair to dry with nothing on it.

Before, instead of shingling my hair, I would take globs of gel OR leave-in conditioner and run it along my hair and not individual hair strands. When I did that, not only did I have excess product in my hair, but my hair would mat up and be a difficult task to detangle my hair afterwards. For me, shingling is much easier to style and maintain my wash n go.

I really do like the wash n go! I'm really glad that I pulled this style off and just in time for Spring and Summer. This style is really not that hard to do...I just had to learn how to do this for my own hair.
Natural hair says: when you stop stressing over a particular style, the style will come to you naturally. Continue to try different methods and product choices to find the one just right for you and your hair.
