Castor Oil Challenge - Comparing December 2014 and March 2015 |
I finally reached the end of my winter castor oil challenge!
This challenge is a spin off from KinkyCurlyCoilyMe where Jenell Stewart made this challenge a mainstream experiment for those who want their hair to grow, be healthier, get thicker, and more manageable, while recording our own individual journeys on the KCCM page.

The goal of this challenge is to grow your hair thick and long over a 3 month period. While we understand that your hair will not grow to waist length in 3 months, we know that with consistent use of castor oil you WILL reap great benefits. This challenge is our way of motivating you to partake in a routine healthy hair regimen using castor oil and we hope that you will be motivated enough to continue this regimen after the challenge.
The Rules
You can use any type of Castor Oil you desire ( Regular Pharmacy Castor Oil, Cold Pressed Castor Oil, Jamaican Black Castor Oil, etc.) Get your castor oil right away so you have it in time for the beginning of the challenge. *You must apply the castor oil to your hair/scalp 3x’s a week at the minimum.
My Journey
January 4th to March 29th (13 weeks) was the time frame. Here was my regimen I stuck with:
Type: Jamaican Black Castor Oil
Type: Jamaican Black Castor Oil
How: massage scalp and edges 4/wk, used with my deep conditioner, and used to seal my ends
I really did enjoy this challenge, which is my third time doing it. My motivation was to keep a consistent regimen. I experience 1 inch of growth! I don't have as many split ends as I would have, especially when I take out my long-term protective style. My hair looks and feels healthier and thicker!
Upcoming Season and Hopes
I going to concentrate on my hair health rather than hair growth. Yes, my hair has grown more than the average length for my hair, but that is not important to me. I will continue to answer specific questions along my hair journey, but just focusing on health.
Check out more challenge results and hair growth!
Natural hair says: There is no gimmick with this Castor oil challenge. This challenge helps keep you on a consistent regimen for you and your hair. KCCM gave the rules, but you are the one who carries the journey through.
Always Desire Your Natural,

I agree! I did a castor oil and protective style challenge a few months back and LOVED it. I did the challenge for hair health versus hair length but the benefit of focusing on health usually means there is growth with it. Apart from that I am sure the castor oil helped reduce SSK's (the hair's devil lol). Great job hun :)
ReplyDeleteHow exactly do you massage your scalp with castor oil? May be a dumb question lol but I'm pretty interested in this. Have a great day!
ReplyDeleteOh yes! I absolutely love castor oil. My hair is definitely healthier for it as well. And you are right! Us fine-haired naturals can get SSK's easily (BOO!!!!) But castor oil really helped alleviate that. Thanks for the love!
ReplyDeleteHey there! I usually heat up my castor oil then dip my fingers in the oil. I use the pads of my fingers to massage my scalp in one area for 2-3 minutes. Then I dip my fingers again and move to another section for 2-3 minutes until my entire head is full of oil. And that's not a dumb question. All questions are welcomed here! You have a great day as well!
