My Hair Diary | My Top 5 Natural Hair Mistakes In 2015

Confessing My Own Thoughts | The No-Heat Challenge

I definitely had lots of mistakes in 2014...but, 2015 has surely been a great year for me from learning how to be the best mother to my one year old son (there is no manual for parenting!), learning more of my husband's swag, and just coming into my own as a dancer (more info coming soon). But I will say I have really accomplished with learning and appreciating my natural hair even more in 2015 than the years before.

I have learned about my hair fully, done numerous natural and extension styles, stayed with my hair care regimen, and even did Big Chop Number #2!

However, with accomplishments there are also mistakes and failures. That is what a healthy hair journey is about! If you do not make the mistakes or going through the failures, there would be no way to make yourself better at caring for your own hair. Well, here are my 5 top natural hair mistakes of 2015:

Product Review: ALAFFIA Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender Ylang Ylang

I've been trying out different kinds of shampoos to fit my own hair care needs. I do like sulfate-free shampoos (no suds nor lather) like the CURLS Creamy Curl Cleanser Sulfate-Free Shampoo. So I thought I try Black Soap for a change, just to see how my hair likes it.

Quarterly Natural Hair Advancement | September And December 2015

I couldn't take the heat damage anymore...so I chopped my almost BSL to neck length. I'm loving my hair more and more each day now!!! Onward to my healthy hair journey!

Although I record my triumphs, failures, double failures, and awesome product reviews in my Hair Diary, I also do something called the "Quarterly Natural Hair Advancement (QNHA)." This entry reflects on the last 3 months comparing with the previous QNHA while giving a summary in one whole journal entry. There are a lot of comparisons with lengths, regimens, goals, habits, and hair styles. I do the QNHA at the end of the months: March, June, September, and December. Yes, I am very intricate with my Hair Diary...but this helps me perfect my current regimen, helps me with future styling options, reminds me of my hair goals, and just fun to do!!

My Hair Diary | Looking Back On My Hair Journey From 2012 - 2015

My Hair Diary | Looking Back On My Hair Journey From 2012 - 2015

The quote above can describe anything from motherhood to growing spiritually and just about anything in life. Sometimes we forget on far we have come, even if it's just an inch - that's still moving forward.

During the end of the year, I usually read over the yearly Hair Diary to see what the year was like for my hair. I note the best and worst styles, products to keep and lose, my emotions and feelings, and create the next year's goals based on my mistakes and errors. This year I decided to do something different.

I decided to read my Hair Diary from beginning in 2012 all the way to the end.

I wanted to see how far I have come in my hair journey and what I needed to work on for the upcoming year. What I read was so enlightening:

Crochet Braids | How To Wash Crochet Braids

How To Wash Crochet Braids

I have never been one to wash my hair during a crochet braids style.  I would only do a 'quick wipe down weekly,' but that's about it. However, I thought this was not a healthy practice to continue, especially since I typically wash my hair weekly.

These styles can last for a few weeks, but you can stretch how long you will wear the style if you care for your hair underneath as well as the crochet braids. If you moisturize and seal your hair, you will be able to maximize the entire wear of your crochet braids.

So why not wash and condition your own hair while wearing crochet braids?

Well, let's try it out!

Contributing Article | 6 Ways To Use Oil In Your Hair Regimen

Contributing Article | 6 Ways To Use Oil In Your Hair Regimen

When I first starting my healthy hair journey, I heard about all the benefits of using natural oils in your hair for it to be and remain healthy. After a while, my notebook was filled with different oils and recipes and I was completely confused. Supposedly every single oil has it’s own purpose that it can be use in a hair regimen.

So I learned my own hair and purchased my oils based on my hair needs instead of purchasing oils that I had no idea about nor how to use them.

Product Review: Aphogee Style and Wrap Mousse

I normally have great experiences with rollers sets because of my hair care and styling technique, no matter what styling product I would use. I have used Creme of Nature Foaming Mousse, Alikay Naturals Crème Brulee, Curls-R-Us Curl Definer, Eco Styler Olive Oil Styling Gel, and others to set my roller styles...but I still haven't found the right one yet. Let's see if this new product will be the one I've been looking for...
