Confessing My Own Thoughts | What Works For My Natural Hair |
My Journey
October 10/4 to December 12/27 (13 weeks) was the time frame.
I mostly wanted to focus on finger detangling, cutting off the heat damage, doing more hot oil and protein treatments, and putting lots of effort into this challenge. I wanted to use healthy hair techniques to retain the length grown and to also learn more about my hair during this time.
Here was my regimen I stuck with:
Hot oil treatment - (weekly) Coconut Oil and Olive Oil, 30 minutes with heat
Clarify - (when needed) Alaffia Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender Ylang Ylang
Co wash - (weekly) Trader Joe's Tea Tree Tingle Conditioner
Protein - (weekly) ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor
Deep conditioning (weekly) - Shea Moisture Organic Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breakage Masque
Leave In - Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner
Oils - JBCO, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil
Crème - Shea Butter Crème
Styler - Shea Moisture Smoothie, CURLS Blueberry Bliss Control Paste
Protein - (weekly) ApHogee Intensive Two Minute Keratin Reconstructor
Deep conditioning (weekly) - Shea Moisture Organic Yucca and Plantain Anti-Breakage Masque
Leave In - Giovanni Direct Leave-In Weightless Moisture Conditioner
Oils - JBCO, Olive Oil, Coconut Oil
Crème - Shea Butter Crème
Styler - Shea Moisture Smoothie, CURLS Blueberry Bliss Control Paste
Protective Styles:
I have learned that long-term protective styles are great to 'wake up and go,' but they wreak havoc on my fine-textured hair. My hair needs to be cleansed weekly, moisturized every other day, and needs lots of TLC. I adore long-term protective styles, but I need to focus on the health of my hair...so weekly styles it will be in the future.
My Results:
Starting Length: 5in (front), 8in (back), 7in (sides), 7in (middle/top)
Ending Length: 6.5 (front), 9in (back), 8in (sides), 8in (middle/top)

Yay!! Retained 1 inch of growth!! |
My results are more than just length retained, but knowledge and understanding gained. I'm happy about my hair, but I'm getting to the point where I'm understanding my own hair and how to care for her properly. I continuously take notes in my hair diary, which is a great help to the success of my hair journey. My results are absolutely priceless!
Upcoming Season and Hopes
Since cutting off my heat damage, I feel like I'm starting back over to learning my hair again. However, this time I'm much more aware on how to care for my hair effectively and with proper hair care practice. I want to do more hair challenges (4/year) to further the health of my hair and my own knowledge of hair care in general.Check out more challenge results and hair growth information!
