Product Review: ALAFFIA Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender Ylang Ylang

I've been trying out different kinds of shampoos to fit my own hair care needs. I do like sulfate-free shampoos (no suds nor lather) like the CURLS Creamy Curl Cleanser Sulfate-Free Shampoo. So I thought I try Black Soap for a change, just to see how my hair likes it.

Product Name:

ALAFFIA Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender Ylang Ylang Product Review (Black Soap)*

Product Description:

Alaffia’s authentic black soap is made from a centuries old recipe of handcrafted shea butter and West African palm kernel oil. Saponification is provided by adding ashes to the hot oils, then cooking the soap for six hours. The last step is drying and curing the soap in the sun for three weeks, resulting in a gentle hand and body wash for all ages.

ALAFFIA Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender YlangYlang Product Review

Key Ingredients:

Lavender Essential Oil And Ylang Ylang Essential Oil

My Experience:

I did a hot oil treatment with olive oil, then rinsed my hair while massaging my scalp for 5 minutes. Then I put my hair in 5 sections for manageability. I applied shampoo to the scalp of the first sectioned and massaged my scalp for 2 minutes, then applied more shampoo to the rest of the section (rubbing down). I clipped that section then did the same process to the rest of the sections.

Once all of the sections are done, I take out all the clips then rinse my scalp and hair thoroughly from the shampoo. Then I moved on to deep conditioning.

My Thoughts:

Clean, Clean, Clean!

My hair was so clean and felt so strong after taking out my crochet braids. I always thought I would need lather to cleanse my hair, but my sulfate-free and lather-free shampoo became the business cleaning my scalp and hair...that was full of product buildup!

This shampoo is not thick and surprisingly has a lot of slip as well. I was able to cleansed my scalp completely, then run the shampoo down my hair to clean it from product buildup. Also, I did not need too much of the shampoo to clean my hair. I literally used a quarter size amount for my scalp and another quarter size amount for my hair.

I absolutely love the aromatic scent of the lavender and the ylang ylang together. This really made my morning when I was washing my hair!

This shampoo also functions as a cream for shaving, a body wash, and a face wash. I will say that this shampoo is definite a bargain for my buck!!

I WOULD PURCHASE THIS PRODUCT AGAIN!
