My 4th Year Nappyversary | 1 Year Since Big Chop #2 And Retaining Length

I have reached 4 years natural!

So to commemorate this special day let's look at the growth of my hair over the year. I am proud to say that the growth I have retained from October 2015 to October 2016 is...

*drum roll please*

5 inches!!!!!

My Natural Hair Journey

And that's with trimming!!!

I am so excited to share my regimen, products, and other things I have learned in order to keep my hair healthy and to continue to retain the length I have grown. Here are a few things I have done since my big chop:

Natural/Organic Products VS. Commercial Products
I decided the best way for me to make sure that my hair remained healthy is by using natural/organic products and ingredients. By creating my own products, I knew what was in my products and loved each one of them. This allowed me to not have to go from one commercial product to another, but revamp my own diy product to the liking of my own hair.

AVJ/Aloe Vera Gel and Hair And Body Oil
Speaking of DIY products, these two have been amazing over the year in contributing to the health of my hair. After my washing regimen, I would spray my hair with Aloe Vera Juice or run Aloe Vera Gel along my hair strands, then add my hair and body oil to each section (usually 4-6). Then I would two-strand twist each section and allow to air dry for styling. My hair would be so soft and moisturize by the time styling comes that I would not need to add more product because how well the two worked together.

Learning To Not Use Heat
When I say that I have not flat iron (or used any other hot tools) to style my hair, I surely have not done it. I usually treat myself to a flat ironed style once a year, but that experience in 2014 surely rubbed me all the way wrong. Since that day, I had to learn how to not use heat and style my hair in natural hairstyles (twist outs, flat twists, etc). I have also learned how to stretch my hair with no heat using methods like: Jumbo Rollers,  African Threading,  Bands N Twists.

Learn pH Balance For Health Of Hair
I came around Kimmaytube's YouTube channel for the first time (new to me, old to yall) and discovered that pH Balance is very important in terms of maintaining healthy hair. So I decided to get test strips and test all of my hair products! I have even used Kimmaytube pH-Balanced Leave-In Conditioner, which is absolutely amazing for my hair.

There is so much that I can attribute to this success, However, out of all of the regimens and products I have used, PATIENCE and GENTLENESS has really contributed to my healthy hair. I'm so serious! I have changed up the way I detangle my hair from using my Denman to now finger detangling or taking the time to massage my scalp and enjoy washing my hair instead of rushing. PATIENCE and GENTLENESS are very important in maintaining healthy hair and retaining hair growth.
