My Hair Diary | My Top 6 Natural Hair Mistakes In 2017

Fine Natural Hair - Shoulder Length
I definitely had lots of mistakes in 2016 and set my 2017 goals based on them. Yet! 2017 was a great year of learning from finding new staple products, to focusing on problem areas of my hair, to cutting my again...again. I will say I have really accomplished much with learning and appreciate my natural hair even more than the years before.

However, with accomplishments there are also mistakes and failures. This is what a healthy hair journey is about! If you do not make the mistakes of going through the failures, there would be no way to make yourself better at caring for your own hair.

Here are my top 6 natural hair mistakes of 2017:

New Staple Alert 2018! Mielle Organics Hair Products

Confessing My Own Thoughts | New Staple Alert! Mielle Organics

I had to do it! I just had to do it!

Getting the Mielle Organics products is the most exciting purchase I have ever made for my hair, since using Shea Moisture as my natural hair staple line!!!

I just felt like I could pass this deal up, even though I have only used the Mielle Organics Mint Almond Oil. The best part of this purchase is that it was $50, instead of the retailed $107 during the Black Friday Sale on Mielle Organics. I think I'm definitely set for the year!

Well, guess what happened to my hair on my 5 years of being natural???

Healthy Hair Ingredient | African Black Soap For Healthy Cell Regeneration

I have used ALAFFIA Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender Ylang Ylang, which would do an awesome job with my hair. After using my hair was so clean and felt so strong. It was one of my favorite sulfate-free and lather-free shampoos.

So I thought I would go to the source of the CLEAN...African Black Soap.

Have you been keeping up with your hair diary?! I know I have!

I now update my hair diary every two weeks on Saturdays with the following details: washing regimen, styles done, issues and triumphs, thoughts, and my true feelings on "everything hair."

I keep my hair diary on an app, "My Wonderful Days," in which I can add pictures, videos, and of course my writing entry. I have kept this diary since July 2011.

I will share my entry that I posted on  April 23, 2017:

Quarterly Natural Hair Advancement | December 2016 And March 2017

I decided to let you experience one of the things I do in my Hair Diary! Although I record my triumphs, failures, double failures, and awesome product reviews, I also do something called the "Quarterly Natural Hair Advancement (QNHA)." This entry reflects on the last 3 months comparing with the previous QNHA while giving a summary in one whole journal entry.

There are a lot of comparisons with lengths, regimens, goals, habits, and hair styles. I also include pictures to show that I have either improved or that I need to improve in a specific area. I started this back in June 2013 and I do the QNHA at the end of the months: March, June, September, and December. Yes, I am very intricate with my Hair Diary...but this helps me perfect my current regimen, helps me with future styling options, reminds me of my hair goals, and just fun to do!

Tall And Curly
I made a confession about how lazy I was at doing my hair lately. I know! I'm still a bit embarrassed about it. So instead of staying down in the dumps about it, I decided to look up styles that will save me hours of styling time.

Cornrows and flat twists are really cute, but can take lots of time and patience to get through the style. Here are 6 protective styles (my favs!) that will save you hours of styling time...especially when you don't feel like even doing your hair:

Product Review: Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo And Conditioner Duo

Throughout my entire healthy hair journey, I have not used a shampoo and conditioner of the same brand...I KNOW RIGHT?! That's absolutely...weird. I hardly use a shampoo, so I would purchase a cheap one to use rarely and put all my energy in purchasing conditioners and deep conditioning treatments of the same brand.

However...I went on vacation and forgot my shampoo and conditioner and saw the tiny bottle of Aveda Rosemary Mint Shampoo and Conditioner. Fate had me on this day...

Product Review: Scalp Invigorator From Vanity Planet

Scalp massaging is a great way to promote growth and to increase the blood circulation to make the roots stronger. This is one of the best ways to add to your hair care regimen for your healthy hair journey.

I have seen a lot of YouTubers advocate for this, so I was instantly intrigued! I have never used a scalp massager before, because I was always content with using my fingers for a scalp massage. I thought I would treat myself to the Scalp Invigorator From Vanity Planet, since the reviews were pretty good. Let's see how this goes:

Healthy Hair Ingredient | Non-Boiling Water/Fermented Method Rice Water Rinse, Take 2

Non-Boiling Water/Fermented Method Rice Water Rinse

Rice water has definitely become part of my bi-weekly regimen for maintaining healthy hair by:
  • decreasing the surface friction to keep my hair smooth and soft
  • improving my hair elasticity
  • add natural sheen and volume to my hair
I have researched and have used the Boiling Rice Water Rinse Method, which has INOSITOL (CARB) that repairs damaged hair and protects hair from damage. Since I have fine natural hair, it tends to break easily if not cared for properly.

So here I am again confirming that the rice water rinse has been one of the best treatments to maintain my healthy hair. Instead of using my usual fermented water, I will try the Non-Boiling Water/Fermented Method Rice Water Rinse:

Product Review: Suave Naturals Daily Clarifying Shampoo

I have used ALAFFIA Authentic African Black Soap-Lavender Ylang Ylang, CURLS Creamy Curl Cleanser Sulfate-Free Shampoo, Herbal Essences Wild Naturals Rejuvenating Shampoo, Shea Moisture Fruit Fusion Coconut Water Weightless Shampoo, and other shampoos over the years. I would always give them away because they either had a stripping feeling to them or I just didn't need shampoo and would use Rhassoul Clay OR Mud Wash or Apple Cider Vinegar to naturally cleanse my hair. But this is my first time actually using a clarifying shampoo1

Let's see how this works out...

eBook Review | The Natural Hair Bible: The 10 Commandments of BlackHair Care

We are a society of the iPhone, Internet, and other technological things. We have become so engulfed in this society that we forget the simples things like picking up a book. Yes, I can go to the Internet and type anything about natural, coily, and kinky hair, but nothing beats the knowledge of the hair experts and authors of literature.
