My Hair Diary | My Top 5 Natural Hair Mistakes In 2018

Fine Natural Hair Length Check

*About 3 inches in a year - this is what happens when you wear your hair out too often...BREAKAGE AND LOST LENGTH*
I definitely had lots of mistakes of 2017 and set my 2018 goals based on them. Yet! 2018 was a great year of learning from using the same regimen and products to focusing on retaining the growth of my hair. I will say I have really accomplished much with learning and appreciating my natural hair even more than the years before.

However, with accomplishments there are also mistakes and failures. This is what a healthy hair journey is about! If you do not make the mistakes of going through the failures, there would be no way to make yourself better at caring for your own hair.

Here are my top 5 natural hair mistakes of 2018:

Wearing my hair out too often
I will say that I have worn my hair out more than the past 5-6 years combined. I suppose I have never had Bra Strap Length hair and I just want to celebrate my hair. I believe I’ve even worn my hair out on Sundays very single week to church. I used to be the protective style fanatic, but during 2017 I would do more 'out' styles more than I should. I was all over twists outs, afros, afro puffs, and don't let me get started on wash n gos. So I need to get back to protective styles and keep my ends protected.

Not allowing time between long term protective styles
When I DO a protective style, I would just keep them coming instead of taking a break like I should. The style could be frizzy but I would just be too lazy to do my hair. So I need to quit the laziness and really do something to my hair.

Rare DIY ingredients
I really need to get back on my DIY regimen. At the beginning of my natural hair journey, I would use Flaxseed Hair Gel, Rhassoul Clay OR Mud Wash, Avocado, African Black Soap, Henna And Amla, and many more! It's wasn't just the natural ingredients that aided in my natural hair journey, but I would take my time by really caring for my hair.

Not wrapping my hair at night
This one is a no-no and I should definitely know that. I would put my hair in a bun then lay down on my satin pillow case. But I need to stop doing that. Sleeping on a satin pillow case definitely does not work for me. I need to get back to my regimen of my Bedtime Routine For Natural Hair.

This is just common sense. To have healthy hair is to be healthy on the side with healthy food and abundant water. So I’ll do much better with that. It is definitely important to be healthy on the inside to show healthy hair, skin, and nails on the outside.
