Coffee Beans And Hair Growth |
I love checking out other hair blogs just to see what I can learn from others' experiences and research. One of my all time favs is Maicurls. She is definitely a lovely individual and I absolutely love her hair! I came across her Infusion series and thought that was so cool to not only use natural/organic products for hair care, but to blend, mix, and infuse herbs, plants, and other oils to create an ULTIMATE hair product.
Today, I am going to show you how to make Coffee Infused Oil.
I was checking out Maicurls website and found that caffeine stimulates the hair follicles for hair growth. I also did my research for a few weeks and discovered that caffeine blocks the chemical to damage the hair follicles called DHT. Another study found that caffeine increases the length of hair growth between 33% and 40%.

The great thing about this oil is that you can use this for your hair and your body, which is an awesome 2 IN 1! That's my absolute fav about any products I make. The caffeine of the coffee beans helps to reduce dark circles and puffiness under eyes, helps to reduce cellulite (yasss ladies!), reduces the appearance of stretch marks (can I get an Amen!), and alleviates the wrinkles on the face.
That's just the skin alone!!! For hair, the caffeine reduces hair shedding, promotes growth by massaging the oil on the scalp for blood circulation, and adds shine to your hair. Like I said...2 IN 1!
The Recipe
- 1/3 cup coffee beans
- ½ cup Sweet Almond Oil
- ½ cup castor oil
- 3 drops of peppermint essential oil
- 10 drops lemongrass essential oil
- 5 drops rosemary essential oil
- Coffee filter
- Jar or bowl with top
- Measuring cups
DIRECTIONS:
Place coffee beans in a coffee filter and close with a ponytail holder
Put the coffee filter in a jar or bowl
Cover the coffee beans with castor oil and sweet almond oil. Make sure to shake it up.
Leave the beans in there for 2 weeks, making sure to shake everyday - I ended up putting my oil mixture in my Vitamin Shoppe shaker for easier shaking! HAHAHAHA!!!
Put oil in an applicator bottle for easier usage. Use this oil to massage your scalp and temples, to seal your hair, for pre pooing, and/or to add to your deep conditioner. Don't forget to use this all over your body!
My thoughts
I absolutely love, love, love this oil!!!!!! Although I don't like drinking coffee, I do love the smell of coffee...which I get a whiff of every time I use this oil. I do massage my scalp and temples about 4 times a week in the mornings and evenings. Oh! And a little does go a long way.
I use this oil on my stretch marks on the sides of my tummy (thank God those are my only stretch marks!!) and use all over my body after taking a shower. It's very soothing to my skin, even more than my commercial lotion. I definitely use my coffee infused oil daily!
Any more benefits?
Of course! Castor oil is great for fighting acne, fading scars, stretch marks (say what?!), promotes hair growth, thickens eyebrows, treats scalp infections, and to alleviate constipation.
Sweet almond oil is great for soothing skin irritation, relieves dry skin, cures body rashes, makes skin smoother, reduces dark circles, great make up remover, treats chapped lips, alleviates/eliminates split ends, makes hair shiny, treats dandruff, full of Vitamins A, B, and E, and promotes healthy and strong nails.

Can I use ground coffee?
I don't think ground coffee would have the same effect as coffee beans, but you can surely try it in the filter. I would suggest to do your research and find which process would be the best for you.
Does it have to be 2 weeks to wait for the infused oil?
That's what makes the oil perfectly infused with the coffee beans for the most effective oil it can be. But if you cannot wait that long for the oil, infuse for a week and see how that works for you. But remember, "All good things comes to those that wait..." Yes, I did do that. Have the virtue of patience people!
Enjoy your coffee infused oil! I surely will!!!

I added a few coffee beans in my oil for aesthetics and the aroma! (But I ended up taking them out to make sure I don't have too much caffeine in my hair diet) |
